You have probably heard that driving in Malta is on the left side of the road. The reason for this is the British occupation over Malta in the past which lasted for over 150 years.
But do not worry! If you decide to rent a car, you get used to it quickly. In addition, there are no freeways or highways and the maximum speed is 80 km/h. The easiest way to get around is to take the famous Maltese busses, which are also much cheaper, and the routes are quite efficient.
Be more careful when you try to cross a road. As a non British pedestrian you may get a bit confused. It takes some time until you get used to the fact that the cars come from the wrong direction.
It is worthwhile to lookout for cars, not just for your health’s sake but also because there worth looking at. The Maltese have a weakness for fast cars; there is even a Ferrari Club!
Usually on Sundays a kind of "show driving" takes place along the Promenade, a must for all car lovers! Nowhere else are there so many beautifully restored vintage cars to admire such as on Malta.
